Knickers and Roses {Project Run and Play}

Wow..can you believe it has been another week again?! Welcome, if you are here for the first time. Hope you will stay and look around for a bit!  I was so excited when I heard that Week 2 for Project Run and Play was Sportswear.  The first thing that came to my mind was a modern, yet vintage golfer.  Funny how my brain works sometimes, but I ran with it, and this is what I came up with:

My husband was the genius behind the name of the outfit this week. Don't you love it?

 My biggest goal this week was to make the clothes comfortable, interchangeable, and easy to move in.  

When I was a little girl, I wore knickers constantly. I love them because you can wear them in the spring and summer with no socks or in the winter and fall with socks and they work! The knickers were made from a lightweight cotton (we do live in Las Vegas, so I wanted to make sure my daughter could wear them year round!).  I added the button detailing on front to give it more of a vintage feel and they ended up being one of my favorite details!  I also adore the button closures at the knee.

Next up is the shirt. It was made with a lightweight knit, so I doubled it so it wasn't transparent. It is a very simple shirt, but by far my favorite detail is the pleating detail I put on the shoulder. I love that she can wear this plain as well and show that off!

Last we have a sweet little vest. I knew I wanted to pleat the bottom and by lining it in a contrasting fabric, you can catch little glimpses as she moves..love that! This was made from a t shirt pattern. I left off the sleeves and then cut the front right down the middle and then made the new shape!

Lastly I made some sweet hair accessories and a belt that coordinated and brought everything together. These belts are so fun to make. You can find my tutorial for them HERE. They are so great to add to any outfit for a pop of color.

And here are a few outtakes from the shoot. My daughter had such a great time swinging that vintage wooden club around.

Not a bad swing form for a 3 year old, right?! (Maybe I'll get to make more golfing outfits in the future...):)

bow tied shoes {tutorial}

First of all, THANK YOU so much for voting for my sweet little fox dress at Project Run and Play this weekend. We made it on to round 2! Yay!

When I was coming up with my first look for Project Run and Play, I needed some cute shoes to top it off. (or maybe I should say bottom it off!):)  I had a great time coming up with these:

I knew I couldn't spend a lot of money on them. Guess where I found these cute little things..WALMART! For a mere $8, I knew I could make something cute.

I took off the bows, and using the same polka dotted material as the shirt, I whipped up some bows using THIS tutorial.  I just hot glued them on and had some super cute shoes for a cute little outfit!

Easy, cute, and cheap custom shoes.

Project Paper Doll {Free Download}

I am so excited to let you in on a little project I have had in my mind since I was asked to participate in Project Run and Play.

The idea behind this doll is simple.  I thought it would be so fun not only to sew the clothes for the outfits each week in the competition, but how fun to dress a paper doll in the same clothes?! So fun, right?!

Little Chicks Nails

I love having a little girl. And she LOVES to have her nails painted. With Easter this weekend, I thought it would be fun to get her nails ready for the occasion as well!:)

I just simply painted the nail a sparkly yellow and then used a fine tipped sharpie in both black and orange to do the eyes and beak!

She is thrilled to have little cute chicks on her nails..and that, of course, makes me happy!

(This would also be a really fun way to sing 10 little ducks!)

BTW..taking a photograph of a 3 year olds fingernails is a little challenging. She thought "don't move" meant "wiggle your fingers all over!" Silly little girl.

Easter Paper Tots {free download}

I am so excited to introduce you to a new product today and can't wait to hear how you use them!

Today, I am debuting the first printable in this new set.  I am calling this set "Paper Tots".

Paper Tots are small round paper animals, people, and things to play with, use as cupcake toppers, add to cards,etc. There are so many uses. Over the next few weeks I will be debuting a ton of sets...and each will be available for just 99 cents! (Think animals, people, and my take on some famous movies, etc!) They are so versatile and fun and I wanted EVERYONE to be able to afford them. They will make party planning a snap. Over the next few weeks I will show you a bunch of ideas on how to use them!

Today, though, I wanted to start out by giving you this first set of Paper Tots for FREE (and just in time for Easter).

On Sunday, my paper tots will be out and ready on top of the breakfast muffins my kids will come down to on Easter.

They will just add that extra pop of cute to the spread the Easter Bunny will leave!

But if you are having a big Easter dinner, think of how fun these would be on the kids table..you could use them on their name cards on the table..or just as fun little guys to play with!

Look to the Lighthouse..{free download}

This last weekend was the General Young Women's Broadcast. For those of you who are not members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, one time a year, all of the young women of the church (ages 12-18) and their mothers come together for a meeting specifically with the General Young Women's presidency and the First Presidency to hear messages of faith and to feel inspired. 

This year I so adored the message that President Thomas S. Monson gave in which he spoke of the crazy time we live in these days and the principles of faith that can help us rise above them!  You can watch the talk here.  One of my favorite visuals was  of the lighthouse and how he compared it to the Lord. Isn't that a sweet comparison...and how true it is! It is the Lord who can warn us, help us and lead us to safety away from the stormy seas around us. I have certainly felt that before in my life and know that this is such a relevant message today (and not just to the younger girls!)  So I made a quick print up of this fun quote to remind me and hope you can find a place to put it in your home to remind you as well!

Again, feel free to use this for personal use..give one to a friend..use it in Young Women's, etc. It comes in one of 8 colors..so take one or take all!

do you sketch? {free download}

One of my favorite things to do ever is to sketch. I love grabbing any kind of notebook and my black felt tipped pens and draw away. I love sketching out project ideas, quotes, real life as it is happening and sometimes I just like to doodle.  So many of my projects started out a sketch of some kind (even if it is on an old reciept or a half of a piece of paper). Lately, I have taken up getting actual sketchbooks to drw in and it has been so fun. I picked up a few different ones..all for different reasons.

I love sketching in my Smash journal because there are a variety of papers (and thus backgrounds) and it has brought a new fun side out to my ideas:

Before you say..isn't this a kids book? Technically, yes. (But am I not just a really grown up kid?!):) NO..you would not believe how much fun I am having in these books (I have one other too)! These books have more prompts (most of which I ignore)..but the fun thing about these books is that I am using them to write stories for my kids. About fun and crazy superheroes. They will love going through it when I am done:

And then I have a big, plain sketchbook. I love to open a new fresh page and make the page come to life.  I have obviously been thinking a lot about life lately, so this one came from one of those quick sketch sessions:
