The Gruffalo is the best book I've read in ages!
Pinkalicious series of books....about a little girl who eats so many pink cupcakes that she turns pink....other colors-alicious books as well. Even party supplies to go along with the color themes. Very popular with 4-5 year olds...
Also may want to check out the award winning series about Lars the Polar Bear and all of his adventures. For a little older child try the Indian in the cupboard series of books about a plastic toy Indian and cowboy that come to life.
